When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the information provided in the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to help identify spam.
An anonymized string (a “hash”) generated from your email address may be transmitted to the Gravatar service to verify that you are using the service. Cookies
When you leave a comment on our site, you can choose to have your name, email address and website address stored in cookies. This is for your convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter this information each time. These biscuits will keep for one year.
When you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal data and is deleted when the browser is closed.
When you sign in, we set a number of cookies to store your login details and screen preferences. Login cookies are valid for two days and screen options cookies for one year. If you select “Remember me”, your login will remain valid for two weeks. When you log out of your account, the login cookies are deleted.
When you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is stored in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal data and simply shows the ID of the modified post. The cookie expires after one day.
Managed content from other websites
Articles on this site may contain embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Managed content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as it would if the visitor had visited that website.
These websites may collect information about you, use cookies, include third party tracking and track your interaction with embedded content, including if you have an account and are logged in to the relevant website.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we keep your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata will be retained indefinitely. This is done so that we can automatically recognise and approve future comments, rather than keeping them on a waiting list.
When users register on our website (where this option is available), we will also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, modify or delete their personal data (except for their username) at any time. Website administrators will also be able to view and modify this data.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file with all the personal information we hold about you, including the information you have provided to us. You can also ask us to delete any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data that we need to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitors’ comments may be checked through an automatic spam detection service.
